House and Sherlock Holmes
Every week, I DVR my favorite TV shows: How I Met Your Mother, Big Bang Theory, The Daily Show, and House. I was watching an episode of House this morning and was reminded of a connection to the Sherlock Holmes stories. I've always said that House is the modern medical version of Sherlock Holmes. They are both considerably complex characters (they are slightly arrogant, intelligent, and only interested in solving cases that are interesting). They are both classic examples of deductive reasoning. I never really thought to look into whether others have thought the same way, but a quick Google search confirms my connection: Connections Between House and Holmes. I think there's a conference paper for the Popular Culture Studies in the making. My summer project...

This is interesting because Dr. Burns just connected this for us in our Detective Novel course. We had been reading The Hound of the Baskervilles, and he asked us if we knew that House was modeled after Holmes. I had never heard that before (I usually don't watch House), but once it was pointed out, I could see the similarities.
